There are many resources available for American Indians and Native Alaskans, but some may be difficult to find when needed. The internet has become an invaluable tool in which to access information. Below you will find links and information, some specifically for the American Indian population, and others working with American Indian and Native Alaskan children and their families, and others that cover issues that affect American Indian and Native Alaskan populations.

The following resources are provided as a good starting points for getting information about the American Indian and Alaska Native community. There may be other resources within each state and region may also be helpful.

Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) was established in the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1992. The purpose of the CCAN is to organize the Health Sciences Center’s efforts in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect.  
Minnesota Indian Women's Resource Center - resources in Indian Country for American Indian women and children.
National Indian Health Board - information on national health issues affecting American Indians.
Tribal Law and Policy Institute - information on court related services in Indian Country.
Indian Health Service - information on health services in Indian Country.
Bureau of Indian Affairs - The federal agency charged with trust responsibility for Indian Country.
National Indian Child Welfare Association - addresses the issues of child abuse and neglect in Indian Country through training, research, public policy, and grassroots community development.
National Congress of American Indians - NCAI's mission is to inform the public and the federal government on tribal self-government, treaty rights, and a broad range of federal policy issues affecting tribal governments.
Center for Disease Control and Prevention - is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of all people.
National American Indian Court Judges Association - the largest and most comprehensive site dedicated to tribal justice systems, personnel and tribal law.
Parent Child Interaction Therapy Lab at the University of Florida - provides information on PCIT as well as additional resources.
Tribal Health Resources Numerous governmental and tribal agencies exist that provide culturally appropriate information, education, training, research and services to American Indian and Alaska Natives and advocate for the needs of Indian people.
Seattle Indian Health Board The mission of SIHB is to assist American Indians and Alaska Natives in achieving the highest possible physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being through the provision of culturally appropriate services.
Native Tech An internet resource for indigenous ethno-technology focusing on the arts of Eastern Woodland Indian Peoples.
Native Web Resources for Indigenous Cultures around the World
Indianz.com A national newpaper with articles of news in Indian Country.
  Native Languages An online resource dedicated to the survival of Native American languages.
MegaLaw A website with resources and links regarding Indian law.
Native American Journalists Association A site dedicated to promoting the field of journalism in Indian Country.
Native American Cultural Links The goal of this site is to facilitate communication among Native peoples and between Indians and non-Indians by providing access to home pages of Native American Nations and organizations.
Association of American Indian Physicians is dedicated to pursuing excellence in Native American health care by promoting education in the medical disciplines, honoring traditional healing practices and restoring the balance of mind, body, and spirit.

TF-CBTWeb, was developed to complement other methods of clinical learning. This site includes specific, step-by-step instructions for each component of therapy, printable scripts for introducing techniques to clients, and streaming video demonstrations of the therapy procedures.
Carlisle Indian Boarding School - The Carlisle Indian School's mission was to change the identity of American Indian youth to conform and reflect the Christian image that the founder of the boarding school assumed was more acceptable.
National Center for American Indian and Alaska Native Mental Health Research - their mission is to promote the health and well being of American Indian and Alaska Natives, of all ages, by pursuing research, training and continued education that realizes the unique cultural contexts of this special population.
National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - offers publications, resources and other information on fetal alcohol syndrome.


National Center on Sexual Behavior of Youth
(NCSBY) - a national center designed to provide states, territories, and the District of Columbia with information and support through national training and technical assistance in the management of children with sexual behavior problems and adolescent sex offenders.

University of Washington in Seattle - resources for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Effect

The National Child Traumatic Stress Network - Resources for families, professionals, schools, and the media, including tips on finding help for traumatized children.

Oyate Ta Woakipa Etan Woasniye (Healing from the People's Trauma) is a program of Wakanyeja Pawicayapi, Inc. (The Children First, Inc.), a nonprofit corporation chartered by the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Wakanyeja Pawicayapi, Inc. promotes the rebirth of the Lakota lifeways and laws through education, healing, and collaboration.


Northern Plains Indian Law Center
is a part of the School of Law, in consultation with area tribes and Indian leaders, has established the Northern Plains Indian Law Center. The Center's purposes are to assist tribal governments in addressing legal issues affecting tribal lands and members, and to promote diversity within the legal profession by increasing recruitment and retention of American Indian law students.


Family & Children's Services
is one of the premier human service providers in Northeastern Oklahoma. The agency provides counseling services, parenting education, child abuse prevention and treatment, literacy programs, marriage and family strengthening programs, early childhood family support, youth development programs and mental health services.

Indian Health Care Resource Center of Tulsa, Inc., (IHCRC), is a comprehensive health care facility, governed by a local volunteer Board of Trustees. IHCRC provides medical, health education, dental, optometry, behavioral health, chemical dependency, HIV/AIDS prevention and pharmacy services directly to the Tulsa Indian community. Members of any federally recognized tribe and their children under the age of 18 are eligible to receive care.

This ground-breaking group will provide input for a comprehensive plan that addresses the recommendations outlined in the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health and is designed to meet the needs of Oklahomans. o support these efforts, a state and federal partnership created the Oklahoma Innovation Center to assist with a systemic transformation process.

FASD Center for Excellence created to increase awareness about FASD and to improve the quality of life for individuals and families who are affected by it.

Native American Children's Alliance
is an inter-tribal membership organization whose mission is to promote excellence in child abuse prevention and intervention in Native American and Alaska Native communities through training, mentoring and information.
